Hexies and Fresh Powder

I've gone back to making hexies in the evenings and it's made me think of the various ways that I could use them to create neat things around my home. I fused a layer of HeatnBond to one of my hexies, then fused a layer of cotton batting to the hexie, and then placed another hexie on the outside of that layer. The last step was sewing the layers together to create bright coasters for my kitchen table.

I decided to create some new placemats to go with my bright Fiestaware dishes which gave me the chance to practice my machine quilting and to use more of the bright hexies:

I found a colorful sheet at a local store, cut that up with my rotary cutter and made new napkins for us:

I don't know about you, but we really enjoy bird watching, with three feeders in our backyard along with a heated bird bath. Lately Dark-eyed juncos have been coming around to see us.

I also have several squirrel feeders and my husband teases me that they are getting fatter and fatter....

Speaking of husbands, mine has been creating unique kitchen implements out of pieces of cherry wood that he's saved from other projects. They are quite nice to use and very fine to look at. Thanks, Marshall!

My family and I went skiing yesterday and it was 1 degree F on the mountain (-17C), but we had a blast skiing the fresh powder. When you have good gear on, and you're having fun, you can spend hours outside in the cold with a smile on your face. We did my favorite run, Nighthawk, over and over, so today my legs are talking to me about why I did that ;-) It was so worth it though....
Enjoy your day,
Judy

Wonderful use of the colorful hexies and Marshall is a talented craftsperson ,great kitchen utensils ! We have lots of birds as well and even a few squirrels much to our dogs dismay , he really dislikes them for some strange reason.

Love those new utensils! And your new mats are very suited to Fiesta Ware. If you could see your way clear to sending a few snowflakes I would be very grateful......
